Eyelashes & Eyelash Growth Serum - Lash Energiser Review

Eyelashes Made Simple

We are all born with eyelashes – they develop at embryonic stage and will begin to take shape in an unborn child from around week 22. They, like any other human hair, grow from follicles in the eyelids from which they are rooted. Similarly too they are made of a tough protein called keratin (95%), water and a pigment called melanin which gives the lashes their colour.

The life-cycle of the eyelash consists of three phases:

  1. Anagen. The active growing phase which lasts between 30 and 45 days.
  2. Catagen. The transition phase when growth stops and the follicle contracts. It lasts for a period of 14 to 21 days.
  3. Telogen. The resting phase lasting 100 days or so before the eyelash drops out and the cycle begins again.

They will follow the same cycle of growth, transition and shedding to your other hair, with the rate of growth being estimated at ¼ inch per month.

Don’t forget the age old superstition – when an eyelash sheds and drops out, if you’re fortunate enough to find it on your cheek, you need to pick it up, blow it away and make a wish!

There’s usually 3 layers of lashes attached to each lid. On average the upper adult eyelid contains between 100 and 150 lashes and 75 to 100 on the lower lid. The lashes on the upper lid grow slightly longer than the lower lid, to approximately 8mm. The upper lasher curl upwards and the lower curve downwards. They may differ in colour from that of hair on your head to a certain degree, often being slightly lighter.

Eyelashes – The Purpose

The eyes are protected by incredibly thin folds of skin which we know as eyelids. Tear glands run across the edge of the eyelids and continuously secrete a lubricant. The function of the eyelid is to protect the sensitive eyes and to keep them lubricated by spreading tears and other secretions evenly over the surface of the eyes. This is to ensure that the eyes and in particular, the cornea is kept permanently moist and not allowed to dry out.

There are a series of small muscles situated within the eyelids which enable the eyelids to open and close with a reflexive process we call blinking. Blinking can be an automatic reflex action that protects the eyes from external threats like dust, insects or other foreign bodies but also causes the eyelids to automatically and regularly close and spread the lubricant from the tear glands across the entire surface of the eyes to ensure that they don’t dry out and are kept moist and healthy.

The involuntary blink reflex makes this happen automatically and the voluntary reflex supports this process by enabling us to blink of our own free will whenever we also feel the need.

The sole purpose of the eyelashes is to protect. They do this by keeping sweat, dirt, dust, germs and other foreign bodies away from the eyes. They also to deflect and shield direct sunlight away from the sensitive eyes themselves. These small hairs are incredibly sensitive and can detect foreign matter, send an electrical pulse and cause the eyelids to close in an attempt to keep out the would be invaders. As such, eyelashes need to be looked after and great care should be taken to avoid damage to the actual hair follicles themselves.

The History Of Beautiful Eyelashes

Historically the Ancient Egyptians believed the eyes to be “the windows to the soul” and, if the eyes are the windows the eyelashes much provide the frame and a good looking frame will always draw attention to the windows themselves! As a result of this belief, going way back in time to around 3-4,000 years BC, the Egyptians started to blend some unusual ingredients together, ingredients like kohl (sulphide of antimony) honey and crocodile dung, and, in effect, created the world’s first mascara although in those days it was thought to be used to mask the eyes, ward off evil spirits and protect the soul.

Makeup lost its appeal as far as Western culture goes and it wasn’t until much later that the Victorians started the revival in the 19th century when the use of cosmetics and daily beauty regimes started in earnest. The eyelashes were seen as an important facial feature and one that should be enhanced and so the Victorian ladies would spend hours mixing together ingredients such as ash, soot, lampblack and elderberry juice to create a mascara.

This new found demand, coupled with the invention of petroleum jelly, resulted in the birth of the world’s first commercial mascara product. Invention of mascara as we know it is widely credited to a chemist by the name of Eugene Rimmel although at roughly the same time, in 1913 a man by the name of T L Williams created an incredibly similar cosmetic for his sister. That sisters name was Maybel and when the product started to be supplied by mail order a new company under the name Maybelline was born!

Mascara has evolved from there to what it is now – from a mixture of petroleum jelly and soot, ash or carbon black, to the use of different pigmentations, dyes, oils and waxes that are used today – different formulations but same basic principle.

Going a step further – false eyelashes are believed to have been the brain child of film director D W Griffith in 1916 who wove human hair into a small strip of gauze the lengthen the eyelashes of the leading lady in his silent film called Intolerance – Love’s Struggle Throughout The Ages. Nowadays false eyelashes have evolved significantly and eyelash extensions are also available – not just available for cosmetic purpose but for medical reasons when a loss of hair has resulted from a medical condition or practice.

Eyelash Enhancement Serum – Lash Energiser Review

Eyelash enhancement serums are also now becoming more and more popular. They’re claimed to work by actually stimulating eyelash growth in order to create naturally longer, thicker lashes. One such product is Lash Energiser (formally Idol Lash).

Real Idol Lash Energiser Reviews

One thing that everyone agrees on is the cost – Idol Lash Energiser is very competitively priced when compared with competitor alternatives meaning that if it does work for you it will be one of, if not the, most effective eyelash enhancement solutions.

I had used Lilash in the past with amazing results. But it is much more expensive so when I saw reviews touting IdolLash as the best I thought I would try it and save myself a whole bunch of $$. DLKW.

I was first on Latisse, which I was able to purchase at wholesale price but to me was still expensive! I decided to give Idol Lash a shot and glad I did, it does a wonderful if not better job for me than the Latisse at half the cost. Mitzi.

For the price I would say it’s worth the money. It’s only a quarter the price of most big name brands and at least I’ve seen results. Bruno bb.

Very few report any form of adverse reaction which, given the all-natural ingredients, is as expected although it was mentioned:

Warning- don’t get it in your eyes because it burns. NY4

As for the actual performance reviews we have to admit surprise to witness such a mixed bag of findings – there were some real positive reviews, many of which go into great detail – here’s just a snap shot of some:

I have used several eyelash growth and conditioners formulas. This one is far the best because no other formula has compared with new growth. LuLu.

I started losing my eyelashes due to stress & asked around about re-growth products. Someone suggested Idol Lash, so I purchased it. It has been about 4 weeks & combined with Biotin I have already seen a significant amount of growth. You can no longer tell I had lost almost all of my lashes. Only gave 4 stars because I am not finished using it, still have 2-4 weeks to go. Definitely recommend it! Paige G.

I used to have beautiful, long eyelashes and got TONS of compliments on them. But after years of mascara abuse, my eyelashes became sparse, thin, and barely noticeable even with mascara on. But now after using Idol Lash twice, sometimes three times a day for a month or so my long eyelashes are back!!! I’m so happy!!! I literally can’t stop looking at them and playing with them in the mirror! Sheema.

I love it. My bald eyelash spots have grown back, my eyelashes are longer and fuller. I’ve even given a tube to a friend who had chemo and had all her eyelashes fall out. I have been using this product for at least 8 months and couldn’t be happier with it. CN.

I have to say I was initially sceptical about this product as it seemed too good to be true, but It really works! I have been using it for 4 weeks and there is a noticeable difference. I shall certainly keep using it and would recommend. Val S.

I’ve been using it a little over 5 weeks now and have amazing results. I can’t wait to see how my lashes will look like in a couple of more weeks. Go and buy it, you will not regret it! Kate.

You read those and you’ve got your credit card in your hand and ready to make the purchase now but it’s not all this positive – there are those unsure:

This product sped up some eyelash growth with eyelashes I had lost but I saw no difference in my other lashes length! Searching.

This product does not help to grow lashes but make them a little bit stronger(stop falling)and no allergy at all!! Bird.

There are also those completely negative towards results:

I have faithfully put “Idol lash” on as instructed both morning and evening for 4 weeks and can honestly say I see , “no change what so ever” to my lashes. Pov 15.

I have used this product for over 3 weeks and have noticed NO difference at all. I am very disappointed in it after all the good reviews. GLL.

I used it faithfully for 6 wks without any visible result. Joan.

After 4 weeks of using this product (per the instructions on the box) I didn’t notice longer or thicker lashes. Jeannette.

I bought Idol Lash and used it for a couple of weeks and saw no difference at all. Stacy.

I applied the clear eyeliner-type formula every day on clean eyes. After 8 weeks of daily use, my lashes are not longer, I do not have more lashes, and the lash hairs are not thicker. Mar.

Been using this for four weeks already.. do not see any changes at all !!!i am not happy with the product at all!!!!!! taty.

Our favorite negative Idol Lash review with a positive spin:

No changes in lashes, however the container was useful. Excellent applicator. So basically I bought a $30 container…lol. Sharon C.

Definitely a glass half full kind of person – we like your style 🙂

One thing’s for sure, you have to give it time and if you’re expecting miracle results in a few days or weeks then Idol Lash is not for you – be patient with it:

I’ve been using it for about a month, and have seen no difference at all. The product says you should see a difference in 90 days, so I’ll give it the 90 days to see what happens. Anna L.

It takes one’s dedication to use the product faithfully and maybe on some it just won’t work. cawess.

This serum really does work! I’ve been using it since May of 2012, it took about 3-4 months to notice a difference. Sarah B.

So it appears that it is cost effective and works incredibly well for some yet not for others.

Everyone is different and will probably have different result but if you’re looking for a cheap alternative it’s worth a try. Bruno BB.

Our own views are similar to those of one product reviewer:

I guess it isn’t for everyone though judging by the other reviews. But I’m glad I bought it! Sheema.
